The Church’s mission is to share God’s love

In a letter to the cardinals ahead of the June consistory, Pope Leo XIV urges them to explore the themes of *Evangelii gaudium* in greater depth, particularly the reform of programs for Christian initiation. He then recalls that the Church’s mission “combines explicit proclamation, witness, commitment, and dialogue, without yielding to the temptation of proselytism or to a mindset focused solely on institutional preservation or expansion.”

This perspective, therefore, calls upon every baptized person to move from a faith that is merely received to a faith that is lived out;“along this path, the very nature of the spiritual life is also highlighted—in the primacy of prayer, in the witness that precedes words, and in the consistency between faith and life.”

Pope Leo XIV urges pastors to“resolutely support missionary boldness, ensuring that it is not weighed down or stifled by excessive bureaucracy, and fostering a discernment that helps to recognize what is essential.”

"A comprehensive mission that arises from an encounter with Christ capable of transforming lives and that spreads through attraction rather than by force."

Living without inhibitions

“Even when it finds itself in the minority,”the Pope emphasizes,“the Church is called to live without hesitation, as a small flock that brings hope to all, reminding us that the purpose of its mission is not its own survival, but the sharing of the love with which God loves the world.”
